Depart from Inverness and drive through the Scottish Highlands, stopping at the Caledonian Canal, Loch Dochfour, and the Lord and Lady Dochfour.
Stop for a photo opportunity at Loch Ness and learn about the geological event of how the loch was created and how the beasties survived all this time. Hear about the scientists and enthusiasts that are still searching for Nessie.
Stop for a short walk down to the shores of Loch Ness, take some photos of the fantastic scenery, and maybe even catch the monster hunting its breakfast.
Admire the military or financial setting of Urquhart Castle, on a rocky promontory with an open outlook up and down Loch Ness. Learn about the castle’s history and the battles fought over its ownership.
Continue to the village of Invermoriston and learn about its connection to fairy folklore and the home of the chief of Clan Grant. Drive through Glenmoriston, Strath Clunie, and the Battlefield at Glenshiel.
Head to the Atlantic coast and up to Carr Brae viewpoint. Take photos of Eilean Donan Castle and cross the Skye Bridge. Stop at the Cullin Mountains and the Fairy Pools, a series of 4 degrees celsius pools and waterfalls in the crater of an old volcano where the fairies bathe.
Drive to the Island’s largest village, Portree, for a photo of the colorful harbor. Enjoy a coffee or a dram in a café or pub or take a stroll around the shops.
On the return journey to Inverness, stop at the Legend of Saucy Mary in Kyleakin, and learn the ancient art of “Coo stealing” while spotting wildlife.
